China threatens with retaliation if U.S. imposes new tariffs

China’s commerce ministry said this Thursday that China would feel obligated to retaliate against the U.S. if it insists with putting tariffs on Chinese exports.

“If the United States, regardless of opposition, adopts any new tariff measures, China will be forced to roll out necessary retaliatory measures,” said commerce ministry spokesman on a conference.

China also affirmed that was going to monitor the effects of U.S. policy measures over Chinese markets and will support firms, local or foreign, operating in China.

On the other side, the U.S. is already ready to impose a new round of tariffs on Chinese goods, this time on another $200 billion worth of them. Both countries have already imposed about $50 billion in tariffs to each other, which has concerned investors and has been affecting the global market.

The U.S. is demanding China to better the access to its market and to improve laws on intellectual property in order to improve U.S. position, as its trade deficit with China is huge.
